Stronger Together — But Are We
Really Together?
Theme: Stronger Together: Sustaining Protection and Livelihood Gains through Partnerships
It was with pain, sorrow and disappointment that today unfolded. My participation was not just unfulfilling — it felt like lost time, stolen from meaningful work and genuine collaboration with our team. Let this day stand as a reminder of what true inclusion must look like: purposeful, participatory, and equal in benefit for everyone — not a stage for select organizations and select people.
Refugees were brought in to create the appearance of engagement and representation. But appearances are not representation. What happened today was not a celebration — it was a performance. And there is no integration without proper mechanisms that respect the channels, voices, and lived realities of the community.
Distinguished guests, government officials, and community members — good afternoon.
My name is Mudadi Saidi, one of 300,000 refugees from Kakuma Refugee Camp. My presence here is not as an individual but as a leader who carries the responsibility to remind you — governments and NGO partners alike — that this is the moment to build true partnerships and genuine recognition of Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs).
This is a moment not to pretend to support, but to truly serve the refugee community and marginalized communities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei — equally. There is no sustainability if the community is not involved in decision-making, at the table for discussions, and in the planning.
Let us make this day truly memorable and meaningful.
Have a blessed NGO Day Celebration.
No integration without representation. No sustainability without community voice.
